Writing with Light

Private Tutorials and Safaris

Whether using a simple point-and-shoot or a complex film/digital camera, Robert de Gast can teach you how to see, compose, and transform light, colors, people, and places into remarkable photographs.

He is a patient teacher and coach who enjoys sharing his experience and passion for photography, a word that delightfully has its origins in the Greek, "to write with light." Also of note is that the word amateur is derived from the French word for lover. Thus, an amateur photographer is one who loves photography!

With his short coaching sessions, Robert de Gast can take the mystery out of the technical and artistic aspects of photography, whether struggling with the problems of using a new camera or working on composition and documentary techniques. Robert is an award-winning photojournalist and the author of nine books. Living in San Miguel for more than a dozen years, few people know San Miguel like Robert and he can guide you on a personalized safari to unique out-of-the-way places like the ruined mines of Pozos or to beautiful abandoned chapels in the nearby countryside or to the fascinating colonial cities of Querétaro and Guanajuato for shooting and sightseeing. The hands-on experience will expand your talents and your confidence while enriching your visit to Mexico.

Whether you chose a private tutorial or a day adventure, Robert will expand both your talents and your love for Writing with Light.
