The Thin Magenta Line by Evelyn Chisol and Robert de Gast
The Thin Magenta Line
This is a book about a journey so leisurely that it hardly seems possible in the 21st century, a tranquil 1,243-mile sailing cruise on the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), an all-weather, protected passage along the Atlantic Coast for small ships, tugs, barges, and yachts. Sometimes affectionately called "The Ditch," the Waterway meanders through sounds, bays, creeks and rivers (and several man-made canals) just inside barrier islands and beaches, never far from the Atlantic Ocean. This is an account by husband-and-wife team Evelyn Chisolm and Robert de Gast of their nearly 100-day voyage from Norfolk, Virginia to Key West, Florida.
